The puppet theatre is good for small children but not only for them. It has a long history and it is as serious as any other type of theatre. The puppet theatre appeared in China about 2000 years ago. In fact, it was a puppet shadow theatre, where the story was told by the shadows of the puppets. Making the puppets required very good skills. The best puppets were made from very delicate materials and coloured with bright oils. They cast very colourful shadows and the play was an impressive show.
The puppet theatre came to Europe much later. And in Russia the puppet theatre became very popular due to Sergey Obraztsov. He set up his theatre in 1938 and performed classical folk tales for children and adults.
