         Hi guys!
         Today my post is less technical and more amusing (at least I want to make it amusing). I’m going to tell you about my new roommate, SIR. Yes, it’s his name but not because he comes from some noble family, nothing of the kind! SIR is an abbreviation which stands for Super Intellectual Robot. We created him in our University laboratory and now he lives in my campus room. Of course, all my mates from our robotech team wanted to test SIR too. We threw a dice and I was lucky to accommodate him for the first month and to observe how he functions.
         In fact, SIR is a perfect roommate. He never leaves dirty dishes on my writing desk, never takes my gadgets without a permission and is never noisy, ignorant or bossy. He is the best roommate I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot - most of them were troublemakers! SIR, on the contrary, makes my life nicer. Not easier, but definitely more interesting.
         SIR combines the functions of several home devices. In the morning, he acts as my alarm clock. First, he politely informs me of the exact time and encourages me to get up. If his sensors tell him that I haven’t changed my location and I am still in bed, he switches to the second mode and pulls my blanket away. In case I refuse to get up again, SIR turns on the siren. It is awfully loud and it talks with the voice of our professor (whom none of the students like). At this moment I always jump out of my bed to touch the button on SIR’s shoulder that switches off the wake-up function. I know perfectly well that, otherwise, all the students from our block would be here in ten seconds to bang on my door. I prefer not to take the risk.
         Then SIR takes care of my breakfast. We have not programmed him to cook yet. All he is able to make is a large warm sandwich and a mug of coffee. Not bad for a roommate anyway, is it? And SIR is very punctual – my breakfast is ready exactly seven minutes after I get up.
         When I leave for lectures, SIR wishes me luck and gives me a big smile. We are especially proud of this function of his. We had argued a lot before we agreed on what SIR should look like. There were two concepts – to make him look like a dragon or like a human. The dragon design looked more impressive, but the humanoid won because he seemed more friendly.
         Generally, SIR functions OK. Even better than we had expected. At the same time there are some things we would like to improve. After the testing time, which is approximately three months, we will take our SIR to ‘hospital’ where he will turn into his modernized version SIR II. After that he will possibly be shown at the Siber Exhibition, in which most leading universities take part.
         That’s all the news for now but I promise to post regularly so that my readers know how SIR and The Company project goes on.
